The Swill: Blackout Stout
The Still: Indian Wells Brewing Company
Inyokern, California
The Drill: Irish Stout, 12oz bottle, available exclusively at Whole Foods Markets in the southwest. Alcohol content not available.
The Spill: Dry, lean. Somewhat bold for an Irish Stout in terms of bitterness. A hint of roasted black coffee that, according to the brewery's website, will leave you wanting another. While it does leave me wanting more, another beer simply won't deliver it, either.
Says Bill: I'm a fan of dark beers, and this one doesn't quite cut the mustard. It's a highly drinkable beer, but not an extremely enjoyable one. I must specify that my tastes lean far towards the American style stouts, and that Irish and English styles are often far too watery for me. On top of that, this beer shares its name with one that leaves a trail on the tongue that is nearly impossible to follow. When I get to the Blackout Stout by Cleveland's own Great Lakes Brewing Company, that will be a beer!
Refill?: In a pinch, sure, and it presents an American take on Irish souts to give the Guinness drinker something new to try: 1.5 taps out of 5.
