The Drill: Novelty Beer, 12oz bottle, alcohol not listed
The Spill: This beer is made for Star Trek fans, and is named after one of the evil alien races that the Federation of Planets has waged war against for decades. Apparently, the fighting is necessary in order to save innocent civilizations from ever drinking this stuff. The beer is bland and dead inside, and presumably gets most of its flavoring from the blue-green food coloring the manufacturer has added to enhance its other-worldy appeal. I truly believe this beer was not meant for drinking.
Says Bill: My cardinal beer wall rule is that every bottle I collect must be one whose contents I have tasted. I do not accept empty bottles from friends to add to my inventory. That said, this one was a chore which made it very difficult to adhere to my standards. I picked it up in Vegas in the gift shop outside the Hilton Hotel's "Star Trek: the Experience" attraction in 2007, about a year before the exhibit was closed down, much to the chagrin of Trekkies everywhere. I have no proof, but I'm convinced this concoction, which is blander than a Vulcan stand-up routine and more tasteless than a Ferengi fashion show, had something to do with it. It may even be the reason why the Klingons grew those funky forehead ridges that they never want to talk about.
Refill?: God, please no. Make the Redshirt drink it. He's gonna die anyway: 0 taps out of 5.

Thanks for the warning, er, I mean well-detailed review. I still have the bottle you gave me, but now any curiosity to try it is enclosed behind full-strength deflector shields.
ReplyDeleteAnd clever interweaving so many Trek-isms into your review. And I won't get into the details, but it was revealed recently that the "funky forehead ridges" are earthly in origin. So while it may not have been this Romulan Ale that caused them, it's not too far off the mark.
