The Swill: Wells Banana Bread Beer
The Still: Eagle Brewery, Bedford, England
The Drill: Beer brewed with bananas, 19.25oz bottle, 5.2% ABV
The Spill: This is one of few specialty beers that truly comes off tasting like it's advertised to. According to the back of the bottle, the hops are carefully hand-selected, the malt is crushed, not ground, and actual bananas are included in the mix. The resulting flavors are bready, nutty, and, well, banana-y. It's wonderfully flavorable, extremely enjoyable, and truly unique, both in its goal and its achievement.
Says Bill: My wife Holly and I tried this beer in Idyllwild, California, over Memorial Day weekend 2008. She ordered it at a bar called the Lumber Mill, ignoring my warning that beers like that usually don't live up to their names. Especially English beers. Boy, am I glad she went against my better judgment. Both of us were all smiles, sip after sip. This is not just a beer for girls, but for anyone who enjoys a real novelty now and then.
Refill?: Youbetcha. Just to see the look on the faces of your friends when they try it for the first time: 4 taps out of 5.
